       The impetus of the neonatal screening programs has pushed forward the development of the OAE technology. Therefore it is not surprising that the actual status in the screening field changes more rapidly than in other clinical area where OAEs have been applied.

Turkey

UK

  • The material on the UK NHSP was furnished by Nick Waddell (Portal's liason) and Anne Stevenson (NHSP Operations Manager). Mr Waddell serves as 'IT Co-ordinator' for the UK NHSP. He was responsible for specifying and procuring our national IT system, as well as overseeing its rollout and ongoing development. He is now more involved now in strategic planning and developing approaches for working more closely with other antenatal and newborn screening programmes, as well as ensuring that the IT system supports our developing quality assurance strategy.
              The information on the UK program is divided into two parts: The first is a report (ATTN pdf file 3.5 M) on the activities and the goals achieved so far (middle of 2005) and the second a report on the operational status of the program in 2005. (40K).

  • UPDATE on 11/2006 (sent in by Nick Wadell) . The NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Programme completed implementation in March 2006, meaning that all areas of England are now providing the screen (currently 98.9% of parents are offered screening). The next stage is a Quality Assurance programme to appraise local services according to the national standards for screening, early diagnosis and support and to implement quality improvement strategies. Five presentations were made at the Newborn Hearing Screening 2006 conference in Lake Como, Italy, which give updates on the main areas of the programme. These presentations can be found on the NHSP website at http://www.nhsp.info/como2006 and cover:
